This second installment of Sharon Hinck's Restorer series has been my favorite for a long while. I find Kieran's journey in this book to be so inspiring, moving, and challenging. I identify strongly with his armor of cynicism as well as with some of his wrestling with God. I long to be as fully transformed as he is in the course of this story. I love the way Hinck describes the way following God gives us a love for people we would never have imagined loving before.I think I'm doing a terrible job of reviewing this book. Sometimes it's hard for me when I'm so close to the book, when I love it so much, to communicate that well. Anyway, I highly recommend you read this series, but please, start with book 1, not this one! :)

This is my favorite of all Sharon Hinck's novels! I love the whole series, but don't judge whether the series is fun or not until you read this book. She ties together things from the first book seamlessly, but you will be surprised at how she does so. I thoroughly enjoy this series and rank it as one of my all-time favorites!
I have fallen in love with this family and it's missions...and wish the author would just keep the storyline going forever!!!
Thought would be able to quit reading after the first book, but just couldn't...this series was that good! Believable characters, excellent suspense.
This second book in the series returns to the alternate world that Susan visited in the first book. In this one, we follow the new Restorer - the unlikely hero, Kieran - as he struggles to come to terms with the One's call on his life. We also watch Susan's teenage son grow and mature in the strange new world.
Again, this story is told beautifully, and the characters are easy to relate to. Another really great read!
I read the original Sword of Lyric series and loved it. The characters were well-developed, and the story line kept me eagerly reading. The best thing about them, though, was how the author used the situation of a person from our world learning about another world where the same God was known, to give a fresh and meaningful perspective on that God's presence and person in our own world. I have lent these books out to several friends, who also have very much appreciated them. When I saw that there were expanded editions being published, I figured I didn't need them, since I already had the originals. However, I had just re-read the first one, and was going on vacation. I decided to purchase the expanded edition of #2 on my , to make it easier to take. I loved what the author has added! The additional chapters give perspectives of other characters, and let the reader get to know them a little more. Links to the internet give photos of places that inspired the author in writing about places in the story, as well as music clips of the songs in the book. Now, I have also purchased the expanded version of book #1 on my , and plan to purchase #3 when it is finished.
Loved it! I liked Kieran from Book 1, he was a complex character begging for more development. I loved getting to read inside his head as he learns to yield to the One. I love how while some of his actions are similar to Susan's, he also is called to walk a completely different path.
One other detail I enjoy greatly about this series is the layering of villains and antagonists. Sharon does a wonderful job creating different levels of antagonists that are both near and far, and at differing levels of danger. I think part of why this sequel is so successful is because the villains and their plot threads carried over to create familiar danger in a new story. Excellently done!
I can't wait to get started on the next one.
